Are you kidding me?!
Okay. I am DONE. You guys? There’s something I need to tell you . . .
I have decided to just continue posting on AO3 and Webnovel. Here is why.
Fanfiction.net: This site holds my old and classic pieces from my childhood. However, I have lost trust in it. Over the year, it had some severe problems with it’s alert system, only the bot site being able to work for that. This messed me up so bad, I thought I had actually lost my account because it kept saying my password was not working.
Really, really bad. Implanted the serious thought first. Then, there was the hosting problem for them. That was super sketchy. Now, they are asking for donations. The site with lots of ads, is taking donations now.
It was my childhood place, my 2000’s era, but I don’t feel comfortable with it holding all of my work. When I only had access via my Kindle for a little while, I tried to move it over but I couldn’t. The app will only let you move in blocks of words, not copy and paste whole chapters.
So, my trust was low for this one, but just learning about this donation thing? I am done.
Wattpad: Wattpad is okay for certain books, but it doesn’t really work for everything. When it doesn’t, the fewer than double digit views don’t make a person feel good. Also, while fanfiction is okay? Lordy, the original is terrible. The views, oh the views. I tried it once, posted everyday a segment for a solid two weeks. Nothing.
You also didn’t know what worked until you tried it. So I would have massive amounts of 100,000 word Undertales for awhile getting less than 100 views. Why? Because I played fair, everyone got everything. Like Misfortune would say, “Yikes, Forever.”
I will keep my Gundam Wing on there because that fiction is completely written. I just ran out of steam and it fell majorly behind. I will also keep Connor’s Deviant Menu going because fans have been interactive with it. That’s it though. I will keep everything else completed on there, and fans can still reach me of course through my profile board, but overall, that’s it.
Webnovel and AO3 are the only places I want to post anymore. I am honestly done. It’s the last straw now.
AO3 is the place for fanfiction. I don’t mean it has the most engagement, sometimes ff.net did. What I mean is it is the safest place to put fanfiction, the easiest place to upload (Nightmares over ff.net process), allows pictures (Yay.), and works to maintain a non-profit while letting readers read in peace without ads blazing 24/7.
Webnovel. This one is probably super controversial, but I am not going to get into the controversial. I just know? That the fanfiction community and engagement over there is stellar. Not so much with comments, but I rarely get that these days anyhow. The views and the collections though? The love for this kind of work? I get so excited when I post there, and I do it more and more.
It is also great for original fiction for me too. Having everything getting the same devotion of views and love feels like it’s at another level. I find myself gravitating here more and more everyday. I truly think webnovel has a different audience that doesn’t reach the other main pathways of ao3 and ff.net.
I have a nice little archive for two other sites I will now keep going, but they are so small and niche it doesn’t make sense to mention them. (Inuyasha Fanfiction and Missing Pieces. One is only for Inuyasha, and one is only for Pretender.
