Hostage! Part 1 of 2
I have decided to cut off all fics except the most popular one on ff.net (Connor’s Deviant Menu) and popular two on Wattpad (Revenge of the Lost and Connor’s Deviant Menu). I am going to be moving my whole collection of fanfiction to ao3, webnovel and my site. My site will have everything. Webnovel and ao3 will update or get new chapters according to how much the fans interact. That simple.
Basically, instead of waiting for months or years for a favorite to update again, they can make it clear they love this story by kudos, comments, or subscriptions and I can advance that piece to an actual due date for the next chapter. No engagement? No fans. No fans, I remove to my site until I am done with more books.
Except for some experimental stuff.
Now I can enjoy my writing, and not have to think so hard about when and where to update my free work. I feel so much better.:)
Original post below with some more added information, and some taken out like how to handle the multiple sites at once:
I don’t know why I never thought of this before. Well? Sort of, but not really. It seems so simple now. I think because one side of it seems fair, while on the other side, it doesn’t. I think . . . I think I will do this though.
First of all, I don’t have to write fanfiction. I love writing fanfiction, and more than ever, people seem to be getting what they deserve these days. Well, maybe not getting (I’m not rich last time I checked), but they know their worth. I know my worth. I love fanfiction, but I cannot keep up the grind with it, and be successful.
Take Not So Average Fangirl.
She did something that I thought was tremendously in bad taste at first, but I am seeing it more and more on youtube. They were taking their chance with their entertainment time, and actually seeing it for it’s value. (Gasp!) But like, why not? Why did it feel irritating to feature a little bit, and then see what won? She enjoyed all of them, but youtube hurts, so she made decisions.
Guess what? Posting all of my stuff to keep going on all the fanfiction websites? Hurts me. It hurts my time especially, and it hurts my hands. (I write a lot, and posting the same thing over and over isn’t good.) There is no profit for it, but I also write original, and that loses time because of my fanfiction needs. Things need to give, and I love fanfiction too much to give up writing it.
I think this is the best way to handle this. Let the fans decide!
Now. I love everything I create, I just don’t have time for it all. I need to know who is enjoying what, on what site, and no those cute little statistics aren’t always enough. I want real input! If people like something, they will take two seconds to make it known.
And for things I write for free, I don’t believe it’s selfish to know where everyone is standing on something. It’s not like I’m charging for advanced chapters. Honestly, I could just do it by hits, but then a fan loses the control over smaller fanfiction areas that don’t have as many fans to help out with that sort of thing.
It will be the viewers that will make the difference instead.
From now on after I finish a chapter, you will see something like this.)
Will update next chapter once fanfiction reaches ___ more views.
Will update next chapter once fanfiction reaches __ new kudos.
Will update next two chapters once fanfiction reaches __ comment.
These things do not stack, multiple comments does not equal multiple chapters. Each chapter gets a fresh start.
If it does not reach this, then you will have to wait until I am in the mood to add more chapters. They will eventually come, but I have a lot of writing to choose from all the time. Time is limited in a human’s life. Support the story you love.
If I am not done with the next chapter after it to post, you will see something like this:
This story has no new chapters to give it’s fans. The stakes have now been raised. Encouragement helps me to pay attention to the story you want me to write on. I am currently writing on over 20 books, both fanfiction and original, so make yourself heard, and I will pay attention.
Now I need to take time to make that new content to continue your story. It will be more than a few minutes to do this, so it will take a little more persuasion than last time because not only do I have to write the next part, I will have to scan and/or read the whole story again to immerse myself, and catch all of the little details again.
Not every story will be created equal. I know some stories have super small audiences, I will not make it hard for things to continue.
Things do not stack though. Five comments on one story does not mean five new chapters!
